communcation sites vs publishing pages

whats is the diffference between communication site and publishing pages.

 

How much of control is given in communication pages  if i want to project organisations portal as intranet to the employees

    Communication sites are just modern SPO sites using a specific template and taking advantage of modern pages and modern webparts built with the SharePoint Framework...they are not publishing sites. Publishing sites are "classic" SPO sites where publishing feature providing you with features such as publishing pages in your site, richer navigation configuration experience, etc

    Communication sites are not intended to built Intranets, they are just additional blocks for you overall Intranet
