Change the link in overview of contact
I would like to ask you if is there any option how to change default application or link where is the end user directed after clicking on the phone number in user card in SharePoint modern UI? We use Cisco WebDialer IP telephone. At this moment when we click on the employee phone number in adress book (own application) it will open new open when we can call the number. It is javascript under the number which does this function. Is it possible to use this feature in SharePoint Online? Is it possible to change or edit display template in this case?
You might be able to write a SharePoint Framework extension (Field Customizer) and change the way the user field is rendered.

- Totally agree here with Paul, best approach is develop a SPFx extension or even use column formatting stuff to provide the phone experience you need. What it's not possible IMHO is to customize the Office 365 people card
