Cannot open word files from synced One Drive

Every so often, I am unable to open files from my university one drive account in Word. It only says that the file cannot be downloaded. I am signed into the same account on my personal computer as I would be on any computer in my university and most of the time I have no problems. I can't tell if it is a problem of my university or not as I can access my drive perfectly fine if I open files through one drive online. 

When this has happened before, I've tried to log out of my university account and log in again, but it just ends up that I'm not able to connect the account.
