Mesh Toolkit Update – Questions about Unity, Code Customization & Timeline
Hi everyone,
I just read the recent announcement about the Microsoft Mesh Toolkit being retired as of June 24th, 2025, and I have to say it came quite suddenly.
According to the message, the toolkit will be replaced with a new in-app, no-code customization experience. I have a few important questions:
1. Will Unity still be supported?
Many of us (including our team) rely on Unity for creating and publishing Mesh experiences. Will this integration continue to work, or is it being phased out along with the toolkit?
2. Will code-based customization (scripting, APIs, etc.) still be possible?
Or is everything moving toward a purely no-code model? That would be unfortunate—custom scripting has been essential for our more complex experiences.
3. When can we expect the new tools to be available?
Is there a timeline or preview we can test? And when will we be able to migrate/update our existing environments to the new system?
We currently run several meetings and collaborative sessions in Mesh spaces, so this change has a big impact on us. A clear migration plan would really help us prepare.
Looking forward to hearing from the team and from others in the same boat!
Best regards

Hey Mesh Creators, please see the guidance in this thread: Transitioning from Microsoft Mesh to customizing immersive events in Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Community Hub

Microsoft Mesh is retiring on December 1, 2025, and will be replaced by Teams immersive events. The Mesh PC and Quest apps, mesh.cloud.microsoft website, and the Immersive space (3D) view in Teams will be decommissioned. Organizations should transition to immersive events in Teams and update their documentation. If the information is true, then this entire approach by Microsoft towards developers is pathetic. Updated July 9, 2025: We have updated the content. Thank you for your patience.
We’re retiring the Microsoft Mesh PC and Quest apps, the mesh.cloud.microsoft website, and the Immersive space (3D) view in Microsoft Teams effective December 1, 2025. This change supports our continued investment in immersive events in Teams, which offers a more integrated and scalable 3D meeting experience.
When this will happen:
This change will take effect on December 1, 2025. No admin action is required for the retirement to occur.
How this affects your organization:
After this date:- Users will no longer be able to attend Mesh events via the Mesh PC or Quest apps.
- The mesh.cloud.microsoft website will be decommissioned, and users will not be able to schedule events or manage templates/environments there.
- The “Immersive space (3D)” view in Teams meetings will no longer be available.
- Joining Teams meetings via the Mesh Quest app will be disabled.
We recommend transitioning to immersive events in Teams, which is accessible via the Teams calendar. To schedule an immersive event, select the drop-down next to New Event, then choose Immersive event.
What you can do to prepare:- Inform your users about this upcoming change.
- Update internal documentation and training materials.
- Encourage users to explore and adopt immersive events in Teams for 3D meeting experiences.

It’s disappointing to see such limited information provided for a change of this scale. I hope it’s been taken into account that those who developed for Mesh didn’t do so just to run meetings in Teams, but to build rich, immersive experiences.
Just to be sure I understand: do you still intend to support the creation of fully custom environments for immersive experiences? Or is your vision of “delivering the best possible experience to our Microsoft Mesh customers” now limited to navigating predefined rooms (like Meadow and Oasis), designed primarily for meetings, with the ability to add only basic elements like videos and presentations?

I don't understand why they would drop the Microsoft Mesh Toolkit without having the alternative ready

The short notice for this update has presented a challenge for our team's workflow planning. We would have appreciated more lead time to prepare and adjust our development schedule accordingly.
