Can Mesh be used as a SharePoint Space replacement?

Hello Community,

I received a notice that SharePoint Space is depreciated and I was directed the Mesh. Mesh seems to be limited to created 3D environment for "events" or meetings in Teams. Can Mesh really be used in place of SharePoint Space? If not, what can be used in place of SharePoint space? I was using SharePoint Space for virtual tours and I took a lot of time to set that up.

Thank you

Thanks for the question DianezP and luleonard. As you note SharePoint spaces and Mesh are unique experiences with more focus on a multi-user shared event experience in Mesh. For many Spaces scenarios that don't work well in the event-based approach the best alternative within Microsoft 365 right now is likely SharePoint pages. While you cannot use the 360 degree image functionality of Spaces on a SharePoint page, you could curate 2D images to give people the context of what they will experience in a space.

We are also continuing to invest in new features for Microsoft Mesh and have heard feedback that a more persistent non-calendar experience would be valuable. We will continue to consider and explore that in the future. We are currently working hard to enable more approachable environment customization in ways that are similar to Spaces and will continue to support more features in this area moving forward: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mesh/events-guide/customize-event?tabs=template

The latest information on the Spaces deprecation is available here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/sharepoint-spaces-deprecation-11ac7262-865f-4b15-a596-53a1646970a0

      Hello Luleonard,

After reading through the limited documentation on Mesh. I concluded it is NOT a suitable replacement for SharePoint Space. This is because Mesh is based on calendar events. So, if you do not have calendar events, there doesn't seem to be much of a way to access it. So, if you use it for virtual tours, there would basically have to be a forever event of some sort. Also, it looks like it's really hard to create an environment, if you're not a developer. Basically, Microsoft seems to be catering to large companies. Smaller business and organizations are out in the cold. I am going to try Panoee, as a replacement.
