FAQ: Transferring SaaS solution to the marketplace in the middle of a contract

Q: Customer has a multi-year SaaS solution, (ex 3 yr), billed annually, that they purchased outside of the marketplace, 1 yr ago. Contract still has 2 years left, but they want to move it to marketplace for the remaining 2 years. Can the customer transfer the SaaS solution to the marketplace before the next annual invoice is issued, or do they need to wait until the 3 years are up at the time of the renewal? 

 

A: the customer should work with their ISV to determine next steps and whether they are willing to transfer the billing arrangement to Microsoft through marketplace (as this adds cost for ISV).

The ISV would simply need to have 2-year option on their public software plan and create a private offer for the customer to accept and purchase. A new subscription will start in Microsoft's systems. 

 

*Generally the annual anniversary date of current (off marketplace) subscription is best day to start a new subscription (on marketplace) because custom term durations are not permitted.
