No subject warning, but there is a subject

Hi everyone,

For some weeks our user are reporting that Outlook gives a notification for 'no subject' when they send a mail. That is strange, because there is a subject in the mail. In some way, Outlook doesn't sees this subject.
To make it even more strange, the issue does not occurs al the time. After restarting Outlook, it is away for some time.

I tried serveral things to solve it - disabling plugins and updating Outlook among other things - but nothing has helped. The problem only occurs in Outlook 365 classic, with OWA there are no problems.
Have any of you also encountered this problem?

Kind regards,
Arjan

  • FYI: According to Microsoft Support this issue will be resolved in a future update of Outlook.

  • The best solution is to disable the faulty "no subject" warning via the registry by setting PromptForNoSubject to 0 under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\Mail, which prevents Outlook from showing the incorrect prompt. This workaround is safe and effective, especially since the issue is a known false positive in Outlook 365 desktop that doesn't affect mail delivery. Additionally, ensure Office is fully updated, test without add-ins using safe mode, and consider recreating the Outlook profile if the issue persists.

      Hello MrCharlesJenkins

Thanks for your reply. Disabling the 'no subject' warning is not really a solution for the problem. Although the user has given a subject, Outlook don't sees this subject. When I review the logs in Exchange Online, I see that the mail is send without subject.

      Kind regards,
      Arjan

Disable subject warning rules, check if the email header contains hidden characters, and press Ctrl+F3 to view.

      Hello CuriLab

Thanks for your reply. Disabling the waring rules is not the solution, because the message is sent without subject. I see this in the Exchange Online logs; there the subject is empty.

      Kind regards,
      Arjan
