Exchange organization sharing

Hi there,

I have setup a organization sharing between two testing domains i own, but after a few tests i can´t find what it does, i know it enables some availability features between the accounts, mainly on calendars. Can someone explain me what this actually does?

Thank you,

    Hi joao_ramos,

An organization relationship in Exchange Online is a one-to-one relationship between two organizations that allows users in each organization to view calendar availability information. This can be useful for collaboration between different companies or departments.

To create an organization relationship, you need to be a global administrator in your Exchange Online organization. You can create an organization relationship using the Exchange admin center or Exchange Online PowerShell.

Once you have created an organization relationship, users in your organization can share their calendars with users in the other organization by using the Outlook sharing permissions dialog box.

    Benefits of organization relationships

There are several benefits to using organization relationships, including:

    • Improved communication and collaboration between different companies or departments.
    • Reduced need for users to switch between different calendars.
    • Ability to share calendar free/busy information with users in on-premises Exchange organizations.

    Levels of access

There are three levels of access that you can specify for organization relationships:

    • No access: Users in the other organization will not be able to view any calendar information for users in your organization.
    • Access to availability (free/busy) time only: Users in the other organization will be able to see whether users in your organization are free or busy at a particular time, but they will not be able to see the subject or location of any calendar appointments.
    • Access to free/busy, including time, subject, and location: Users in the other organization will be able to see whether users in your organization are free or busy at a particular time, as well as the subject and location of any calendar appointments.

If you are looking for a way to improve communication and collaboration between your organization and other organizations, organization relationships in Exchange Online can be a great option.

        Hi joao_ramos,

yes, you can share your calendar with external accounts without having an organization relationship configured. This is because Exchange Online allows you to share your calendar with anyone who has an email address.

However, the level of access that you can grant to external accounts is more limited. For example, you cannot grant external accounts access to the subject or location of your calendar appointments.

If you want to share your calendar with external accounts and grant them access to the subject and location of your calendar appointments, you need to configure an organization relationship with the external organization.
