WHAT IS THIS AND WHY IS IT HERE?

It is very intermittent, but every so often I get  a light grey 'bowl' shaped silhouette near the top left of my excel sheets. Although I can move via the left/right arrows the fields into this area, I cannot do it by moving the cursor via the mousepad. This 'thing' also prevents me from using the fill drop-down menu to fill with certain colours.

Why does it occur, and how do I get rid of it please? Sometimes I save my work and shut the sheet down, and on re-opening, this 'thing' has disappeared. Sometimes though, it disappears of its own accord, though it does of course appear of its own accord too!!

After opening your file and selecting the worksheet in question: Click the Looking glass icon on the Home tab of the ribbon and select "Selection Pane". A pane opens. Does it show any objects? If yes, try clicking them one at the time and see if anything in the area where that bowl pops up gets selected. If it does, then you've found the offender.
