Using Excel for simple tables

For individual cells: prefix the value with an apostrophe '. This tells Excel to treat the value as plain text.
For general use:
- Select File > Options.
- Select Proofing in the navigation pane on the left.
- Click 'AutoCorrect Options...'.
- Activate the 'AutoFormat As You Type' tab.
- Clear the check box 'Internet and network paths with hyperlinks'.
- Click OK.
