two colours formatting within a cell (like a flag and not a 2-coloured pattern)
Dear all, is there a way to display 2 colours inside 1 cell? I have seen how to create an homogeneous 2 coloured pattern and assign to a cell. I was more interested to have a 1/2 of one cell colou...

Excel is aimed more to support calculation than visual effects (PowerPoint has some cute effects). Some limited effects are possible using a conditional format data bar
Alternatively you could use an area chart, stripped of annotation and axes and scaled down to cell size.

Insert 'symbols' icon is grey-ed out on my MacOs Version 16.85 and also on my other excel under Window (office 2019)
I have ready that that way to insert things might become deprecated, which is absolutely ....
In another answer to that "grey-out" problem suggest that one should invoke something similar via the formula editor....
I was able to add some emoji but they 'remove' the capability to add a text to a cell

We insert not icons but characters, as any other text. Alternatively you may add boxes by
=REPT(CHAR(103),6)
and apply Webdings font.
Colouring of the text in cell edit mode definitely shall work. On Windows, includes Excel 2019, for sure.
