Troubleshooting: "Loosing" connection between an Excel-sheet and a table in PowerPoint

Hi, I am helping a friend who experiencing some trouble with a PowerPoint used for reporting, based on data from an excel sheet.

These are both stored on SharePoint and synched with client desktop. However, it seems like the excel sheet looses connection and instead of numbers in the table on PowerPoint it says #VALUE, and they need to reconnect to the excel-sheet. Other times the excel-sheet seems to be read-only and they would have to save the excel-sheet as a different document, resulting in too many files when they want only one master. As far as I have understood it might possibly be the network connection that is lost, or some other issue.

I have asked them to check:
  • Version - that the excel is the latest version
  • Properties - that there isn't a required document property missing

Do anyone have experience with such a situation and how was it resolved/ideas of what to check?
