Trouble converting text (that looks like date) to real date format

HI all,

I'm having an issue converting an existing date (from a downloaded report) from what appears to be a text format to a real date format. I've used the tips here and elsewhere but can't find something that works.  Any suggestions? See attached picture.

    It looks like its a regional settings issue,  your dates are coming through in dd / mm / yy format and then excel is incorrectly converting the ones it can

     

    e.g.   11th Jan 2017  = 11/01/2017   which is then incorrectly converted into 1st November 2017

     

    however 13th Jan 2017 = 13/01/2017  which then shows as text because there is no 13th month

     

    Do you normally work with dates in a mm/dd/yy format?
