Touchpad scrolls diagonally instead of either vertically or horizontally

When I try to scroll in excel using my touchpad, it scrolls diagonally, in effect, it scrolls both vertically and horizontally simultaneously. I don't want this. I want to be able to put my cursor in a cell and scroll down, straight down, not down and across. It's very annoying! How can I disable the diagonal scrolling?

  • Try about this:

    • Open Settings: Go to your computer's settings.
    • Navigate to Touchpad Settings: Look for "Touchpad" or "Mouse" settings.
    • Adjust Scrolling Options: Find the scrolling options and disable the option for "Two-finger scrolling" or "Free scrolling." This should restrict the touchpad to vertical scrolling only

I could not locate these options.  This happens when I access my work computer remotely. When I am physically at work, I use a mouse w/scroll wheel and it works fine. When I am on my laptop using the touchpad, it works fine. But when I log in to work remotely, and am using my touchpad, it does not work. Two finger vertical swipe causes movement along both the X and Y axes. I can't seem to figure out how to scroll only up/down and not have this unwanted movement to the right.  I can use the scroll bars but this is tedious and not how I am used to moving through a file.
