Question

im trying to setup a sheet where there is a static column A, I want to add a Comment in column B have it auto dated and moved to the right. so that when i need to add&nbsp; new comment to that row it again auto dates and moves the entire row to the right so the newest comment is closest to column B. for an ongoing work book.&nbsp;

peteryac60&nbsp;this is the basic setup. i just would like to be able to add a new comment where it says add and then have it auto date when i made that comment and shift all previous comments to the right so there is space for a new comment and the most recent is easily visible. i might be making this harder than i need to.&nbsp;&nbsp;

CaseyChris&nbsp;&nbsp;Is it not just a case that you would insert a new column after column A (your node column) and then add your comments there. You other columns would move to the left automatically?&nbsp;Am i missing something?&nbsp;thanks,&nbsp;Peter

I did figure out with a right click on the cell and a shift it will do what i want. then I'm trying to find the command to auto date the cells in the column. so when i put a new comment in it will automatically add that days date.&nbsp;

CaseyChris&nbsp;&nbsp;Can I ask ..... are all the comments in the column made on the same date? Or will you make several comments over a period of time before you insert a new column?&nbsp;If the former then I would suggest that you put the date (manually) in the first row at the top. (see column I in the attached).&nbsp;If the latter I'm afraid I don't think it is possible to enter a date automatically in the same cell that you are adding a comment. It may be possible to do this with VBA (excel's programming language) but I am not sure it is worth the effort.&nbsp;A couple of possible alternatives for you.&nbsp;1/ You can add an extra column (as per attached) but you will still have to manually add the date.&nbsp;2/ Depending on the version you have you can use the Insert Comment feature for each cell. (Just to confuse you older version of Excel have a Insert Comment feature which in Office 365 has been renamed to Insert Note and the a new feature called Insert Comment - confusingly! - will generate today's date).&nbsp; While this works it is not particularly elegant!&nbsp;Anyway I hope this has been of some help.&nbsp;&nbsp;**bleep** luck&nbsp;&nbsp;Peter&nbsp;&nbsp;
