Symbol not copying when I drag the fill handle

I have been using symbols in an excel spreadsheet and have never had an issue with dragging the fill handle to copy them. All of a sudden, subscript 3 changed to a number (131) when I used the fill handle to copy it. I haven't changed anything that I know of and non of the other subscript symbols 0-9 change when I drag it. How do I fix whatever changed?
