Thanks for this - I understand the reasoning completely. Unfortunately, I don't think this would be clear on the project I'm working on as it's not immediately obvious with the amount of text on there.
I thought it may be the case that it's just not meant for sunburst, however, i'm not sure of an alternative that doesn't eat up loads of time/can be easily adjusted.

Try creating the sunburst chart anew, based on your new data layout. Make sure there is something in each cell of the subcat column, if needed just a space.
