Sum one column based on text values in another column
First time being here.
I have a sizeable spreadsheet with text values (Names primarily) in Column A with numeric values in column D. (about 125 columns, about 200 Rows) I want to sum the values in D based on the names in A. For example if A3 = John Doe - sum D3,D125.
I'll attach a sample.
The sumif doesn't meet this. Any advice, help etc.? Thanks!

Actually, the SUMIF function is all what you need, but you have to use it correctly to get the result you want. See following screenshot:
