Spreadsheet refuses to change Date Serial number to mm/dd/yy format
I have tried changing the column formatting, and using text to column copying and DATEVALUE formulae, and copying the columns to a blank spreadsheet & back. Nothing. What's wrong?

Are they true date or just string looks like date? Can you please attach a sample file or share via google-drive or dropbox?
It may caused by:
- Take a look at the format of the cell on real date, say change the format to 'General'
- Regional settings mismatch
- Hidden characters or formatting, sometimes invisible characters (like non-breaking spaces or Unicode dashes) sneak in
