Spell Check in Excel Lagging
I have been having an issue in Excel when I initiate spell check and sometimes just a gray box will appear, based on the size I can tell it is the "Do you want to continue checking at the beginning of the sheet?" question.
If I wait it will come up eventually, if I press enter, it will move to another gray box of either the normal spell checking or the "Spell check complete. You're good to go!" Again, can press enter or wait for it.
Also when I am going through the spell checks, if I click an option (Ignore once/all, Change, Change All) it will freeze on that word for a while.
Any thoughts?

The issues you are experiencing with the spell check in Excel could be due to various reasons, including software glitches or conflicts. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the lagging issue:
- Check for Excel Updates: Ensure that you have the latest updates installed for Excel. Microsoft periodically releases updates to address bugs and improve performance. To check for updates:
- In Excel, go to the "File" tab.
- Click on "Account."
- Under "Product Information," click on "Update Options" and select "Update Now."
- Disable Add-ins: Sometimes, third-party add-ins can conflict with Excel's built-in features. Try disabling any Excel add-ins and see if the issue persists. Here is how:
- In Excel, go to the "File" tab.
- Click on "Options."
- In the Excel Options dialog box, select "Add-Ins" on the left.
- In the Manage box, select "COM Add-ins" and click "Go..."
- Uncheck the boxes next to any add-ins you want to disable.
- Click "OK" to apply the changes and restart Excel.
- Check for Document Corruption: The issue could be specific to the Excel file you are working on. Try opening a different Excel document to see if the spell check works correctly. If it does, the original document may be corrupted.
- Repair Office: If the issue persists, you can try repairing Microsoft Office. This will repair any corrupted or missing files related to Office applications. The steps to repair Office can vary depending on your version of Windows, but you can typically do it through the Control Panel.
- Check System Resources: Ensure that your computer has sufficient system resources (CPU, memory, disk space) available. Running low on system resources can cause performance issues in Excel and other applications.
- Test in Safe Mode: Try running Excel in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. Safe Mode disables certain features and settings that could be causing problems. To run Excel in Safe Mode:
- Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type "excel /safe" (without quotes) and press Enter.
- Reinstall Office: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, you may need to consider reinstalling Microsoft Office. Before doing this, make sure you have your Office product key or Microsoft account credentials handy.
