Slow opening xlsm files after august 2023 update (2308) 16731.20170
Before update it took 2 seconds to open macro enabled Excel.
After update in subject it takes 30 seconds to a minute to open.
Checked everything on the internet, nothing is working.
I just reverted back to (2307) 16626.20170 and its working again.
Anyone know what changed?
Thanks Peter

We also have similar problems. Since the update to the Version 2308, some of us encounter massive delay/lagg or long-responding time by normal operations like switching between worksheets, loading a text file, klicking at a dropdown menu, or double-klicking to edit cell contents. We have no idea what happened. The only difference between those users encountering this problem (version 2308) and those who do not have this problem (version 2302) was the version difference. What even frustrating was, those who use office version 2308 do not always have such problem, yet it happens very often. Some encountered such problem almost every time. Now many of us got back the version 2302 and could work normally, but the security updates for the version 2302 will only be provided until this September (2024). That is to say, thereafter, it will be desaster. At the moment we can only hope Microsoft will have fix this problem in an even neuer version.
In our excel sheets, there are a lot of drop downlists and a lot of macros. But these can not excuses as we have this our excel tool working just fine for many many years.
Thanks
Jesse
- TechQ1540Copper ContributorOur organization is running into the same issues... After 2308, excel has gotten significantly slower. Reverting back to 2307 has resolved the issue for me, but will be more challenging for rest of organization.
- JKPieterseSilver ContributorFYI: I have sent this thread to Microsoft Support to make them aware of it.

PEEETSBENT23 Same things happen with multi Excel files in my organization.
With 2307 those Excel open in few minutes, now it's over an hour...- PEEETSBENT23Copper ContributorWe mainly use RDS 2022.
Last night I downgraded all our RDS servers to 2307 , and disabled automatic updates from offices.
We can't for next update or non existing solution.
- JKPieterseSilver ContributorAnything special about the file? Size, number of styles, number of range names, amount of VBA code, ... ?
- PEEETSBENT23Copper ContributorHi Jan Karel,
Nope nothing special.
All (small and big) xlsm files , so with macro's open slow.
It is a version issue , all work fine on (2307) 16626.20170
Release notes says nothing special.
I started reverting a couple pc's back to previous version and all problems are solved.
I compared Excel options between the 2 versions but i can't spot the difference.
Clueless stil haha.
