Size of same document file has greatly increased

I have been working with an excel spreadsheet for a number or years.  It always saved at about 200 kb.  Now it is saving at about 10,000kb?  Can you provide an explanation?

    you or somebody probably inadvertently entered value in a cell that is off to the far right and/or bottom of the actual working area of the spreadsheet.
