Show value of last cell to the left that has a value
Column A has unique references of reports. Columns B to F show versions of those reports, version 1, version 2 etc...... in the cells of columns B to F is a number (4, 7, 2 etc) But not all report...

JMB17 yes, still shows the MAX,not the value of the latest version

Did you enter it exactly as shown? Note there is a +1 after MAX.
=LOOKUP(MAX(B2:F2)+1,B2:F2)
If it's not working, is it possible you can upload an example. Since it has always worked for me to find the last number in a range, I am curious why it is not working this time.

Don't forget that LOOKUP requires the search range to be sorted ascending (though errors are ignored).

True, it was your formula with the intentionally introduced #DIV/0! errors I had in mind when I added the aside.
