Save or convert Excel spreadsheet to a Google doc

I created a spreadsheet  in Excel but I need to now save it or convert it into a Google doc for someone who doesn't have MS Excel or Office. Is either way possible and how is it done?  Thank you.

This is no longer the case. It's true that they aren't copies of each other, but two distinct products. However, the formulas can be adapted if they can't be converted.

Yes, it is possible, but since it is a spreadsheet, you should convert it to Google Sheets rather than Google Docs.

Go to Google Sheet, click Blank Spreadsheet - File - Import, and upload the Excel file.

After that, click Share and send the person a Google Sheets link. They do not need Excel or Microsoft Office to open it in their browser.

I used Chat GPT to get your answer. I tried it and it worked.

    1. Open Google Drive and log in to your account.
    2. Click the +New button in the top left corner.
    3. Select File upload and choose the Excel file from your computer.
    4. Open the Uploaded File.
    5. Save it (Click File>Save as Google Sheets)

Now, that said, double check it, especially if you have used advanced functions in Excel. Not everything translates over neatly if you've been using some of the newer functions; for example the Dynamic Array functions, or LET and LAMBDA. But if it's a basic file, mostly basic math functions, you should be OK.  But check to be sure.
