Returning a "-"

I am using a simple formula =+H80+H75+H68+H56+H37 and there are $$ in those cells, but no matter what i do it returns a - or zero, but it is clearly not right. I tried a sum(H80,H75,H68) and it still returns a zero. what is going on?
