Recording a stopwatch time
I keep track of my workouts and put a stopwatch time in my excel spreadsheet. It is always changed to clock time. I want to keep the same format as I enter it.
Example: I list my stopwatch run time as 46:32.1. Excel always converts it to a clock time: 12:46:32 AM. I want it to remain a stopwatch time not a clock time. How do I fix this?

HansV answered your question. Some caveats....
1. Excel does like reformat our time data (sigh), even after we set a non-General format. It depends on the functions that we use. Nothing we can do to avoid it. Just be aware that you might need to reset the cell format from time-to-time.
2. If you need to enter 12 min 34 seconds (zero fractional seconds), be sure to type 12:34.0 or 0:12:34. If we simply type 12:34, Excel always interprets that as 12 hr 34 min, regardless of the cell format.
Set the Number Format of the cell(s) in which you want to register your times to the custom number format
[m]:ss.0
Thank you for your response. I entered the format you suggested and typed 27:59.1
When I clicked back on the same cell, Microsoft shows it as 12:27:59 AM
Excel will certainly show that in the formula bar, but does it display it that way in the cell too?
