Publish Excel file online, but restrict opening in desktop app

Hello,

I would like to publish an excel model to a sharepoint site where people can interact with it using Excel Online.

It there a way to do this, but where I prevent people from opening the file in the Excel Desktop application?  The reason I want to do this is because there is sensitive information in some hidden sheets.  Although these can be password protected, there are ways around that if people are able to download the file.

Thanks!

Scott

Are you positive people will not be able to view those tabs in On-line Excel?
You should be able to change the user rights of the sharepoint library, but I am not sure if blocking access to edit on-line is one of them. You can set the default to work on-line, but that is already the default.

JKPieterse Thanks for the reply Jan.  As far as I see, there is not an option to restrict 'opening in desktop' or downloading the file.

I would advise to remove the sensitive data from the file. Excel protection is too poor to prevent people from getting at sensitive data within the file once they've succeeded to open the file.
