Pivot Table Summing ID Number

I am trying to make a Pivot Table, but my ID number keeps being summed. I changed the column to not be read as a number, rather as text - but it continues to sum the ID Number. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I am stumped.

Hello, as correctly said by Savia, you should not drop your ID field inside the Values area. If you do so, PivotTable will do it's job which is to summarize numeric values that comes into the values area.

If you want ID to appear in your report, it is always recommended to have such dropped inside the Rows area

That feature isn’t an option when creating a pivot table on my machine. It is windows 10 OS and I’m thinking an issue with the OS? I tried what you suggested on my Mac, but it’s not working on my windows machine.

Maddissonleigh It's a standard option in Pivot Tables since the 90s so I don't think it's a version problem.  What is happening when you are trying to set it up this way?

Don't put your ID number in the Values field, but instead in the Row Labels field. If you are trying to count ID numbers then change the calculation by clicking on ID in the Value Field area and using the Options.

That’s what I ended up doing on my Mac, but I was working on a PC and that wasn’t an option. Perhaps older version of Excel. Any suggestions for this problem on a PC?
