Pivot table and slicer loss

I submitted an assignment for my university about a month ago and have just realised that when I saved it, the pivot tables are now just normal tables and my slicers have disappeared, this is the case in backups I made and even an email I sent myself to assure it was saved and even in the email the slicers and pivot tables have gone and it’s just the data in the tables.

If you save a brand new Excel file, which file format does it suggest?

I believe is was .xls from 2015 but don’t know why this would change previous saves and even the emails that I sent to myself before hand

xls is an antiquated format that does not support slicers. Also it doesn't support the modern pivot tables. So that is the root cause of your issues.
