Open unsaved excel file

When I attempt to open an excel file that I closed by mistake without saving, I do not have the option to click "unsaved workbook" when trying to recover because when I click "File Open" in Excel it takes me to my Mac files vs Excel Files and there is not a prompt to click "unsaved workbook" or "recover Excel File not saved"

Please Help

Thank you

  • Check AutoSave Location
Excel for Mac should automatically save temporary files. To access these:

Open Finder: Press Command + Shift + G to open the “Go to Folder” dialog.
Enter Path: Type in ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Excel/Data/Library/Preferences/AutoRecovery/ and press Enter.
Locate File: Look for files in this directory. They may have names like “AutoRecovery save of [YourFileName].xlsx” or similar.
