Online Word Doc Problem
Hi. Recently I noticed my online word doc in Edge is displaying in Russian, despite all settings everywhere are English. I restarted Edge, laptop, Word docs etc. Nothing changing this issue and nowhere Russian to be found in settings. What can I do to change it? I am using a work laptop, so a lot of settings are not available as my laptop is managed by my organisation. Please help, this is frustrating! I tried everting, googled all answers and possible questions. Nothing helps.

I take your word for it that you've combed through the language settings and all looks good. I think you need to determine if Edge is at fault. There's a few ways to test this: 1) Access the document using an in-private windows (if your organization allows it), 2) Try another browser, 3) Try a guest profile in Edge (If your org permits it).
If Edge is at fault, we start simple and clear the entire cache. If the issue persists, defaulting the default profile that's stored on your computer is the next move.

In addition, you may check/change your regional settings directly on OneDrive
Similar for SharePoint site, depends on where do you keep your files.

It sounds like the issue might be tied to how your organization’s IT has configured language settings at the account or document level, especially if it's a managed device. Even if your browser and Microsoft account show English, sometimes the default display language of Office Online can be overridden by your organization’s admin settings.
Here are a few things you can try:
1. Open the Word doc in OneDrive > Word Online, go to File > Options > Language, and check the editing/viewing language there.
2. Try logging in from a different browser or personal device — if the issue disappears, it’s likely something on the managed laptop level.
3. Ask your IT team to check for any enforced regional or display settings through Microsoft 365 admin.
I had to deal with something similar when working on a client’s internal document system during a project for asbestos removal cleveland (https://aiohomeservices.com/asbestos-removal/). Sometimes the fix isn’t in your control directly — especially on company-managed devices.
Hope this helps narrow
it down for you!
Did you laptop managed by IT, btw, you may also check on below:
1. Check Edge’s language settings directly
- Click the three dots in the top-right corner of Edge → Settings
- Go to Languages
- Make sure English is listed at the top and set as the display language
- If not, click Add languages, choose English, and then click the three dots next to it → Display Microsoft Edge in this language
2. Clear browser cache and cookies
- Go to Settings → Privacy, search, and services
- Under Clear browsing data, click Choose what to clear
- Select Cookies and cached files, then clear them
3. Reset Edge to default settings
- Go to Settings → Reset settings → Restore settings to their default values
4. Check Microsoft 365 language settings
- Go to office.com and sign in
- Click your profile picture → My Account → Settings → Language and Region
- Make sure English is selected
