One time purchase 2022 Office Home Edition failed to activate
I bought a 2022 Office Home Edition on a one time basis in 2022 and installed on my Mac which has worked well over the year. Then, suddenly on 13 July this year, its Excel disallowed me to save and edit, saying I need to subscribe Office 365, etc in order to activate. I don't know what is going on. Can this be fixed?

Your timing matches a Mac activation issue Microsoft marked resolved on July 15. Quit Office, open Microsoft AutoUpdate, choose Update All, restart, and test Excel again.
Sign in to the Microsoft account used for the purchase and confirm that Office Home & Student or Home & Business appears under Services & subscriptions. A one-time license remains valid, but activation must use the account linked to the purchase.
Check the installation source. Office apps installed from the Mac App Store require a Microsoft 365 subscription and cannot use a one-time Office license. If yours came from the App Store, remove those apps and reinstall Office from the Microsoft account that owns the license.
If a direct Microsoft installation still asks to activate, use the Office for Mac License Removal Tool, reopen Excel, sign in with the purchase account, and choose the one-time license. Have your credentials ready before removing the license. If the product is not listed, contact Microsoft activation support with the receipt rather than buying a subscription.
