    You have a few options.

    1. Select your cells and apply number format "Number".

    2. Go to the cell styles. Select cell style "Normal". Change the number format from "General" to "Number". Every cell in this workbook with cell style "Normal" will change to number format "Number".

    3. Go to the cell styles. Duplicate an existing style and change the number format from "General" to "Number". Select your cells and apply the new cell style.

    Hello,

The General Number Formatting remains the default which implies that you can have Number as the default

Sorry to be thick but I do not inderstand

It goes automatically to "General) then I have to click on "number"

What i am trying to do is have "number" come up as first choice instead of "General"

      Hope thart makes sense

That's what I mean that it is not possible to have Number as the default. General is the default.
