no links/VBA/addons, but : Microsoft excel waiting for another application to complete an ole action
Please deactivate the add-ins in Excel and Word (via File> Options> Add-Ins> COM-Add-Ins> Go to / Go) and test the behavior.
If this does not help, set the check mark for hardware graphics acceleration in Word via File> Options> Advanced> Display and test the behavior.
If this doesn't help either, proceed as follows:
Login as administrator required
- Press the key combination Windows key + R on your keyboard. The Run dialog box opens.
- Enter the command appwiz.cpl and click OK.
- Find your Microsoft Office 365 in the list.
- Click on it with the right mouse button and select Change.
- Select Online Repair and click Repair.
- Wait until the repair is complete and restart your computer.
- Test the behavior of Office.

I found this response on another forum which solved my issue. “My solution was disabling the McAfee real time protection. I turned off the real time protection in McAfee Live Safe before opening the excel file and the issue was resolved.” When in McAfee Real Time, select settings, then Real-Time Scan and then turn-off the scan for the amount of time you need to work on the excel file. Suggest do not open other applications until the work on the excel file is completed. Hope this helps.
