Negative key pastes text into cell

Hi

When I try to enter a negative number in an excel cell using the - key, when I add a number it pastes a piece of text into the cell. I recognise the text as some of mine but i do not know how it became attached to the key and number . Im using excel for mac Any ideas on what i've done and how to stop it
