When I open my workbook, the contents are invisible until I select a single cell and type something.

If you open an Excel workbook and the contents are invisible until you select a cell and type something, it might be due to several reasons. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

    1. Zoom Level: Check the zoom level of your worksheet. Sometimes, if the zoom level is set to a very low value, it can make the contents appear tiny or invisible. To adjust the zoom level, you can do the following:
      • Go to the "View" tab in Excel.
      • In the "Zoom" group, click on the Zoom slider and adjust it to an appropriate zoom level, like 100%.
    2. Cell Formatting: It is possible that the cell text color or background color is set to match the worksheet color, making it appear invisible. Try selecting the cells and changing the font color or background color to something visible.
    3. Worksheet Protection: If the worksheet is protected, it might prevent you from viewing or editing certain cells. You can check if the worksheet is protected by going to the "Review" tab and clicking on "Unprotect Sheet" (if available).
    4. Conditional Formatting or Filters: Check if conditional formatting rules or filters are applied to the worksheet that hide or format the contents in a way that makes them invisible. Review and adjust any conditional formatting or filters as needed.
    5. Hidden Rows or Columns: Hidden rows or columns can also make it seem like the content is invisible. Try unhiding rows or columns by selecting the rows or columns around the area where content is missing, right-clicking, and choosing "Unhide."
    6. Worksheet Scroll Position: Sometimes, the scroll position of the worksheet might be such that it shows empty cells. Try scrolling through the worksheet to see if the content becomes visible.
    7. Corrupted Workbook: In rare cases, a corrupted workbook may exhibit strange behavior. You can try opening the workbook on another computer or creating a new workbook and copying the data from the old one to see if the issue persists.
    8. Excel Add-Ins: Certain Excel add-ins can cause issues. Try disabling any Excel add-ins and see if the problem goes away.
    9. Excel Options: Go to Excel Options (File > Options) and check the Advanced settings. Look for any settings related to cell display and rendering and adjust them if necessary.
    10. Update Excel: Make sure you are using the latest version of Excel. Updates often include bug fixes that can resolve such issues.

If none of the above steps resolves the problem, it is possible that your workbook may be experiencing a more complex issue. In such cases, you may want to consider to give more informations about your Excel version, operating system, storage medium, etc..
