MS Excel Manual Data Entry Response

I recently updated Ms Excel on my iPad. It used to be that as I typed a number in a cell, each digit appeared as I typed it. Now nothing shows until I hit return. This is a real pain because I don't see any errors until the number is completely entered and I have to go back to the cell to fix it.

I suspect there is some kind of setting to control this, but I can't find it. Does anyone know how to change this behavior?
