Most of my chart options are greyed out

Hi!

I made a box plot with some data and most of the options on the Chart tab are greyed out.  All of the editing / toolbar options are available on the tab with the data, however.  I have tried the following to correct this:

-My workbook is unprotected

-It is not shared

-My tabs are not grouped

-I have no active/working cells in the data tab

-Under Advanced -> Display the 'All' box is selected under 'For objects, show:'

-I cannot manually add the text box 

-I have cut and pasted the data into a new spreadsheet and the chart options are still greyed out

-Options are greyed out regardless of the chart plotted

-I've tried Ctrl+6

-The file is saved as a .xlsx

Any other troubleshooting options would be greatly appreciated.  Happy to answer any questions about any other setting I may have overlooked.
