Microsoft Excel file locked for editing
Hi,
At a previous job, I had to access excel files that were "locked for editing" whenever a teammate of mine had the file open on their workstation. I recall the pop-up message saying "This file is locked for editing by FirstName LastName." The file could be opened as a read-only but could not be edited.
How does one go about setting this up?
So far I have tried "Protect Sheet" and "Protect Workbook" via the Review tab, and "Protect Workbook" via File/Info but that has not had the desired result.
We do not want to password protect the files.
I am currently running Windows 11.
Please advise. Thank you!
Steve

- JKPieterseSilver ContributorAs far as I know, this can only be achieved by placing the file on an old-school network share (network drive location).

JKPieterse Thank you for your reply.
We utilize the Dropbox app to store our files/share them across multiple workstations so it appears I'm out of luck.
