lost my ability to print in excel a selected area which includes color blocks, no error, no print

I have been using my new printer for past month and no issues, this morning when I went in to print a selected area in Excel.  Nothing.  No error either.  If I go to a new document and just type a word, it will print, but when I go into my document which has color blocks, lines and figures.  Printer acts like it will start to print then shuts off.  Other applications print, just not word or excel.  Simple letters print, just nothing with added details-color or lines apparently.  Test print works in Excel, but still will not print my document with color and lines.
