no, I don't use filters. just plain Data Validation and vlookup.
hope that it will get you going with your project.

    Data validation is like a controller - it checks data entry - allow selection from a list (which I did for column A - to select ingredient) and many more...
    it is very interesting - hope you learn many things useful for your projects..
