It sounds like you have PowerPivot enabled but it's not showing?  The question is: what is the 'load behavior' set to in the COM add-ins menu?

When PowerPivot is enabled and showing this is what the COM Addins menu looks like.  The corresponding registry value will show '3'.  It is possible to close Excel, go to regedit and set the load behavior manually to 3 so the addin stays on.

Are you using a Windows PC? If yes, go to Settings, search for Apps, find Microsoft Office, click on Modify and let it do an online repair.
If not, Mac Excel doesn't have PowerPivot.
