Is it possible to enter an 8 digit number (mmddyyyy) and have Excel format it into a date?

I'm trying to avoid&nbsp;entering the slashes during data entry. I want the date formated mm/dd/yyyy. Is it possible to simply enter mmddyyyy and have it auto format to the date format above?

Yes, choose the Format Cells command, select Custom from the Category listbox, and type ##"/"##"/"#### into the Type textbox. &nbsp;
