Importing ASC file into Excel

I have a program which generates ASCII data files.  In older versions of Excel i was able to easily import, or open, the data file into Excel.  My latest version of Excel, part of MS Office 365, version 2112, imports the data file as text only; data which i cannot plot.  I tried everything to import the data and nothing works so far.  Can someone give clear instructions on how to do this in the new Excel program.  At present, i am sorry i migrated to Win 11 pro 64bit and the new MS Office 365.  My work is starting to pile up.  Thanks to anyone that can help me.
