I have a password protected worksheet I do not remember the password for. How do I unprotect?
I have a password protected worksheet that I do not remember the password for. How do I unprotect the sheet for editing?
- Mar 24, 2020Officially, there's no way to do this. There are some macros and services advertised out there that claim to break sheet protection, and some may do, but take caution before running unknown code on your workbook. There is no password recovery option built in to Excel.

The unfortunate thing is that Microsoft did not put an assistive feature to show password. You just type it and it disappears. I was so sure of my password, I still am...I used that sheet THIS morning, and yet, apparently I can't recall the password. Microsoft, please put a View feature on passwords. This can protect forgetful or distracted users in future.
