How to lock column sizes in an excel spreadsheet?

When I double click on a column line to make it fit the text, I want to lock that column size.  The goal is that when I email this excel spreadsheet to someone  they can open it and all columns are already open to their full size (not condensed).

    Hi oliviawalker

the only way to lock the column widths is to protect the worksheet:

    Menue "Review | Protect Sheet"

You do not have to set a password, but if you do, you better not forget it 😉

Before you protect the worksheet, you need to unlock all cells where the user needs to be able to enter/change data:

Otherwise, no changes in the worksheet are possible anymore, because by default all cells have the flag "Locked" set.
