help! using cell values in MID to return numbers

im trying to make a formula that says if A3 equals first number of string in A4 then return true. see link below. i think i need to use something because i know i can use quotes if not using a cell value but i need the cell value. maybe im not doing the right method?

  • rangelsammon You can use -- to suppress string to number value output by MID() function. 

    =--(MID(A4,A3,1))=1

    Or modify your formula. See your attached sheet.

    =IF(--MID(A4,A3,1)=1, TRUE, FALSE)

    =--(MID(A4,A3,1))=1

    Or modify your formula. See your attached sheet.

    =IF(--MID(A4,A3,1)=1, TRUE, FALSE)
