Help. Formula pLease
As it is, your question is very difficult to understand. Could you add some example gifs, screenshots or an example workbook with more description of the problem?
If you can show exactly what is changed, what the "right" number is and what you expect to happen when highlighting a day, someone will be able to guide you to the right answer.

So I need to be able to click on the dates across the top and the different number correspond to the color box. is that possible?

Thanks for adding the image. I'm afraid it's not clear exactly what you want to do.
You said "click on the dates across the top"
Do you mean you want to select cell J5 (for example)?
After you have selected a date, what do you want to happen? Do you want to show a count of rows for that date that have each of the codes mentioned?
So:
1. Click on the date header (for example: cell J5)
2. 13 shows in the green box at the top, 5 in the blue box and 5 in the red box
Can you confirm that's what you want to happen?
What are the columns G, H and I for? Are they a sum of all of the codes for the whole month?

Not sure how you're filtering the data as it doesn't look like a date is included. You could possibly use the countif formula; example - =COUNTIF(J:J,"W")
(Note - You may have trouble with formula for whole columns where cells are 'merged and centred' as the coloured blocks in your sheet appear to be)
