Help: Excel file opens from desktop but not from shared drive

Hi.  I receive the error "Excel cannot open the file 'filename' because the file format is not valid. . . . " dialog box when I try to open a file from a shared drive (Google drive), but it opens fine when I try to open the same file from the Desktop.

 

Any suggestions?

    Are you sure the file is exactly the same? Especially the extension?
