headers and footers in excel
How do I stop the data I put in the spreadsheet from being printed over the header, or conversely, how do I keep the header at the top of the page,

AprilW Allow me to fill in on mathetes suggestion to look at the page setup (see picture below). Like him, I'm also on a Mac, so the screen will look different on a PC.
Your "UGGLY" sheet actually offers the best solution, but you need to set your top margin large enough to allow your picture in the header to be displayed without "spilling over" that margin. The settings below worked perfectly on my system.

thank you both, this worked. Part of the problem was trying to format my text & pictures, once I got it all as a picture file and figured out that I had messed up the margins I straightened it out. Riny_van_Eekelen

Let's first try this: Go to the "File" menu at the top of your Excel screen, and find "Page Setup" down toward the bottom there.
The other thing you might need to do is from the Insert Menu, where you can insert Page Breaks
